Essex County holds wreath laying ceremony to honor veterans

NEWARK -

Essex County is commemorated Memorial Day with a wreath laying ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park in Newark.

The park honored the men and women who served as members of the U.S. military Friday.

It has become a popular place for veterans to find solace and remember the great contributions they have made to our country.

Officials also unveiled a statue honoring Jorge Oliveira, a former Essex County officer who lost his life while serving overseas.

Veterans who attended say they were able to reflect on their time in the military and honor those they served with.
