Police: Person changing tire fatally struck on turnpike

Police in Kearny say a person who stopped to change a tire on the New Jersey Turnpike was struck and killed by a passing truck.

According to officials, the unidentified person was on the shoulder of the Turnpike in Kearny Tuesday afternoon when they were struck by a passing box truck.

Officials say the crash sent the person's vehicle careening and the box truck ran off the road.

State police questioned the driver of the truck, who remained at the scene after the crash.

The victim's identity has not yet been released.

The crash caused major delays on the Turnpike.
