Main Street potholes irk Asbury Park residents

ASBURY PARK -

People who drive through Asbury Park say that massive potholes in town are causing them some problems.

“My tires are messed up. I already changed my tire one time, and I don’t like driving down Main Street,” says Asbury Park resident Barbara Edwards-El

The New Jersey Department of Transportation is doing a major rehabilitation project on Route 71. The project began in March and covers the roadway from Allenhurst to Asbury Park.

The DOT will be upgrading 29 intersections, including with the addition of 17 new traffic signals. But repaving in Asbury won’t begin until the fall.

The DOT says that work will stop in the summer of 2019 and the whole project won’t be completed until 2020.

The project is said to improve safety and operational performance.
