Saint Andrews School in Clifton shutting down next month

Posted: Updated:
CLIFTON -

Parents in Clifton are angry with the sudden closure of a Catholic school after they were alerted by the school Monday via text message and email.

Saint Andrews School will shut down for good next month.

The Diocese of Paterson told school officials they had a year to get the school's enrollment up.

Parents got involved and recruited seven families just a few weeks ago, but it wasn't enough.

"I think everybody was arguing with the father, with the principal in the church because they don't give us time ahead to make changes," says Helbert Llontop, who is a parent.

Parents say the diocese's schools superintendent will not meet with parents.

It is not clear why the diocese decided to not give the full year promised to raise enrollment.
