An accident in Monmouth County shut down parts of a major roadway on Sunday.

Monmouth County police say they responded to a single-vehicle accident on Route 18 in Colts Neck. The crash involved a 2009 Mercedes-Benz vehicle.

They say the 54-year-old driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 52-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The two people involved have not been identified.

Route 18 was closed in both directions from Route 34 to Route 37 during the police investigation. It has since been reopened.
