Red Bank residents and officials are trying to see if more parking is needed in town.

The city will conduct a study to determine if the town should build a new parking garage.

While many Red Bank residents tell News 12 New Jersey that they agree that parking is sometimes an issue in the town, several say that a new parking garage is not the answer.

“People just don’t know where to look for the parking,” says Robinson Ale House manager Dana Notarnicola. “On the other side of Broad Street there’s a lot.”

Others say that a parking structure could change the nature of Red Bank.

“You’re kind of in a Catch-22. Do you really want to put something up that big to take away from the charm of the town?” asks Shrewsbury resident Chris Flor.

“I don’t know if there is a right or wrong answer,” says Alan Placer with the Red Bank Business Alliance. “Doing nothing is the worst answer though.”

The study will determine if additional parking spaces are needed, and if so, where to add them.

If a parking garage is built, officials say that the structure may also include shops or possibly housing.
