PATERSON -

Authorities say an on-duty Paterson police officer died Sunday after his patrol vehicle crashed into a parked car.

They say Tamby Yagan's unit collided with a parked vehicle on Getty Avenue around 11 a.m.

The 41-year-old was responding to a call when he swerved and crossed the double yellow line.

Authorities say that Yagan was the only person involved in the crash.

He was transported to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Yagan was a 15-year member of the force and father of a young son.

He was remembered Sunday as a great officer who was involved in the community.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
