After taste of spring, dreary Sunday keeps beachgoers away

SANDY HOOK -

Saturday's fleeting glimpse of spring weather sent droves of people to the Jersey Shore, but Sunday felt like a flashback to winter.

Drizzly rain, fog, blustery winds and chilly temperatures kept people off the beach in Sandy Hook on Sunday.

The water was choppy with fierce rip currents, keeping even surfers away.

The rough conditions led to a rescue operation at the beach after a kite surfer had to be plucked from the waters of the Sandy Hook Bay.  News 12 obtained video and photos of the actual rescue operation, and while it appeared that the kite surfer made it out OK, there was no official update on the person's condition.

In Keyport, residents were concerned with flooding as water from the inlet made its way into a parking lot.

At one point on Sunday, JCP&L reported 17,000 power outages around Middlesex and Monmouth counties. Fortunately, restoration time was quick.

Monday's weather won't be much better. A storm system is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms -- although temperatures will climb back up to near 60 degrees.
