NEPTUNE TOWNSHIP -

Route 33 at Jumping Brook Road remains closed due to a downed pole following a crash in Neptune Township.

The situation began Monday evening when police say a man was driving, lost control, and crashed into the telephone pole.

According to police, the traffic light, wires and other poles came crashing down.

Police say the crash knocked out power to 42 residents and businesses at the intersection.

Everything in the area remains closed between Schoolhouse and West Bangs Avenue, including local businesses, the 76 gas station, a barber shop, the Hamilton Deli and the Quick Check.

Police say the man was able to walk away from the crash.

The closure is expected to remain in place throughout the morning commute.
