The Elizabeth Police Department has opened an investigation after someone fired a weapon at a city firehouse.

Authorities have not released much information about the shooting, but say that the gunfire was reported around 10 a.m. Monday.

Firefighters reported hearing gunfire outside the fire headquarters on Irvington Avenue. The firefighter said that they could hear bullets hitting the doors out front.

News 12 New Jersey cameras spotted dozens of evidence markers outside the fire house as police investigated. A car was also seen being towed from the area.

It was not immediately clear if the headquarters was targeted or caught in the crossfire of another shooting.
