The owner of more than 15 Houlihan's restaurants in New Jersey and New York will pay $5 million to settle the government's claims it violated minimum wage, overtime and record-keeping requirements.

The US Department of Labor announced the agreement Monday.

The restaurants were owned by the A.C.E. Restaurant Group, based in Saddle Brook, and owner Arnold Runestad.

The agreement still is subject to approval by a U.S. District Court judge.

According to the labor department, the New Jersey restaurants include locations in Bayonne, Brick, Bridgewater, Cherry Hill, Eatontown, Fairfield, Hasbrouck Heights, Holmdel, Lawrenceville, Metuchen/Woodbridge, New Brunswick, Paramus, Ramsey, Secaucus and Weehawken.

Officials say there are over 1,000 current and former employees affected between the 17 locations.

There is no word yet on how much the workers will receive.
