A Toms River police officer is recovering after a foot chase and bad fall.

Police say after a crash on Route 37, passenger Loraine Niocolosi fled from the scene.

An officer later spotted her and chased her.

The two tumbled down an embankment, and the officer was subsequently injured, requiring more than 25 stitches.

After the fall, the suspect apparently jumped into the water.

She was later rescued by boat and taken into custody.
