MAPLEWOOD -

Friends of a 30-year-old man shot and killed inside a Maplewood restaurant over the weekend say that he was a self-published author.

Altariq Brown was shot inside a restaurant on Springfield Avenue just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Friends say that Brown published a novel set in Newark entitled “Secret Indictment.” He recently had a book signing.

“Beautiful personality, when he came through here, you know, to sign his book.” says Masani Barnwell of Book of Knowledge.

No arrests have been made in the killing. Anyone who may have any information is urged to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
