Officials: Off-duty police officer found dead from apparent gunshot

An off-duty Jersey City police officer was found dead Sunday night from an apparent gunshot wound, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Officials say that 32-year-old Officer Ramon Torres was found on the first floor of his home on the 300 block of Woodlawn Avenue in Jersey City. He was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his torso. He was taken to Jersey City Medical center and was pronounced dead at 9 p.m., according to authorities.
A spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office says that Officer Torres’s cause and manner of death are pending an investigation. The spokesperson did not say how the officer was shot or if police were looking for any suspects.
