Students honor National Down Syndrome Day with colorful footwear

Students from P.S. 380 rocked crazy socks Friday in honor of National Down Syndrome Day.
March 21 marks National Down Syndrome Day to raise awareness for the genetic mutation that duplicates a copy of the 21st chromosome.
The Williamsburg school, which serves nearly 40 children with special needs, started the annual “it is OK to be different” sock drive and celebration three years ago when student Victoria Rosario noticed kids bullying her cousin Damaris, who has down syndrome.
The school has held the event ever since, also selling crazy socks with proceeds going to the National Down Syndrome Association.
