An anti-violence rally was held in Bridgeport Friday at the site of a recent AR-15 attack that left several people injured.
Protesters gathered outside of the Sunshine Deli with a powerful message.
"Join us as we stand together for the fight against gun violence, the fight against bringing down the crimes in the neighborhood, the fight against stores staying open later than what they should stay open. We're here to fight because we do want to take back our streets and we've had enough," said Project Longevity member Harold Dimbo.
Two weeks ago, the AR-15 attack left three people shot at the deli and focused attention on the need for change. The group is calling for stricter gun control on both the state and federal level.
Councilwoman Eneida Martinez, who organized the rally, said she wants the deli to curtail its late hours as a way of discouraging crime.
"We can start sending a message right from this location and move on throughout the city of Bridgeport," said Martinez.
Those who rallied said employment is the future of the East End, but violent crime is keeping it away.
State Rep. Andre Baker said these images left the people of the community horrified and that they deserve better.
"They're angry, they're upset…that nothing's being done," he said.
Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez said he has stepped up patrols as a result of the attack.
"Somebody got their wires crossed somewhere because I do have police presence, and I check myself," said Perez.
Everybody agreed that all sides need to work together.
