Rapper accused of carrying gun at Newark airport arrested

NEWARK -

Port Authority police have arrested rapper Juelz Santana after a 38-caliber handgun was found in a carry-on bag containing his identification at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Santana was arrested earlier this morning and faces charges of unlawful possession of  a weapon, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (suspected drugs), and an unspecified federal warrant.

He is expected to appear in federal court in Newark later today.

Santana, whose real name is LaRon James, lives in New Jersey.

A Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman says agents noticed the firearm in the bag passing through an X-ray at a security checkpoint. That's when authorities say the suspect took off running.
