A strong March nor’easter disrupted travel around New Jersey Friday.
The storm produced very strong winds, heavy rain and snow. Port Authority officials say that flights departing and arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport were experiencing extensive cancellations and delays.
Newark Liberty Airport said their AirTrain service was back on schedule as of early Saturday morning.
All flights headed to LaGuardia Airport were being held at their departure points because of the winds, and flights were departing and arriving at Kennedy Airport on a "limited basis.”
Amtrak suspended all service along the Northeast Corridor due to the weather conditions. PATH is cross-honoring Amtrak tickets due to the cancellations.
New Jersey Transit was also experiencing delays due to the weather. Trains into and out of New York Penn Station were subject to up to one-hour delays. Systemwide cross honoring is in effect.
Heavy rains and flooding raised some concerns at Hoboken Terminal, where standing water was sitting on the train tracks. An NJ Transit spokesperson told News 12 New Jersey that the standing water was not impacting service as of Friday afternoon. The spokesperson added that the pools of water are not unusual at the terminal during periods of heavy rain.
New Jersey’s roadways were also subject to deteriorating weather conditions. New Jersey State Police say that troopers responded to over 200 crashes or calls for aid since midnight.
Fallen trees and powerlines and flooding caused many roads around the state to become impassable.
