Florida shooting survivors travel to NJ to discuss gun control

Posted: Updated:
LIVINGSTON -

Survivors of the Florida high school shooting massacre, who have quickly emerged as vocal advocates for gun control, traveled to New Jersey this weekend to spread their message.

Three students from Parkland, Florida, were at the packed B'nai Abraham synagogue in Livingston Sunday, along with Sen. Bob Menendez to discuss what they say are common-sense gun laws.

The rally comes over a week after police say 19-year-old Nickolas Cruz opened fire with a semi-automatic rifle at his former high school in Parkland. He has since been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder.

Since the attack, survivors from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School have been pushing for gun reform across the country.

The original location for the rally was at JCC MetroWest in West Orange, but it was moved to Temple B'nai Abraham synagogue in Livingston.  Many of the Parkland students have families who live in Livingston.

On March 24, students will take part in the "March For Our Lives" rally in Washington D.C and across the country in the name of gun control safety and legislative change.
