The Riders Alliance launched a contest to let New Yorkers vent about their worst commute.
Whether it is missing an important meeting or even missing a graduation, commuters can share their experiences through the organization's websites or by using #WorstCommute on Twitter. The weekly contest ends on Fridays at midnight and the winner will be announced the following week. Besides having their story told, the winner will receive a chocolate MetroCard.
Representatives from the Riders Alliance say they've already received many stories. "As soon as we announced the worst commute of the week contest my inbox was full with horrible commutes. People aren't able to make it to work, people are late to pick up their kids from child care, I mean it's a disaster," Rebecca Bailin, campaign manager at the Alliance, told News 12.
Theresa McCarthy, a native New Yorker, told News 12 the increasingly bad commute was a reason she recently moved down to Florida. "They keep hiking the prices up and we keep having to pay all this money, but nothings really changing," she said during a visit to New York.
Bailin told News 12 the contest will keep on rolling until Gov. Andrew Cuomo provides a long-term plan to fix the MTA.
