JERSEY CITY -

A Jersey City man was arrested this weekend after a standoff with police.

Investigators say 41-year-old Johnny Nunez was wanted for stealing $80,000 in merchandise from the Newport Mall.

When they tried to serve a warrant Saturday morning, they say Nunez barricaded himself inside a bathroom in a building on Dwight Street.

He claimed to have a weapon and a hostage.

Negotiators talked to him for nearly 90 minutes before he surrendered.

Officials say he was alone, with no weapon.
