Some New Jersey marina owners say that their docks were damaged by ice from the frozen Sandy Hook Bay and nearby rivers.
The Navesink and Shrewsbury rivers were mostly frozen for much of January. The ice was so thick that it even trapped a wayward boat out in the middle of Sandy Hook Bay.
Warmer temperatures quickly melted the ice, but left the Bahrs Landing and Marina in Highlands damaged.
“They’ll get cracked, they’ll get pulled up. Floating docks will get pulled away, ripped apart,” says Jay Cosgrove.
Bahrs’s owners say that they lost at least six pilings due to the ice damage.
Cosgrove says that it will take several weeks until crews can repair all the damage
