A New Jersey playhouse was able to get some pretty powerful state residents to promote a new play.
The Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn debuted “The Outsider” Wednesday. The political satire tells the story of Ned Newley, a man unexpectedly thrust into the position of governor even though he has no political instincts and a fear of public speaking.
The Paper Mill Playhouse was able to get New Jersey’s current and former governors to help promote the play by appearing in a comical video.
The promo features Gov. Phil Murphy, as well as former governors Chris Christie, Jon Corzine, Richard Codey, Jim McGreevey, Donald DiFrancesco, Christine Todd Whitman and Thomas Kean.
The video shows each of the governors asking “Who the hell is Ned Newley?”
It also pokes fun at some of New Jersey’s political controversies, such as Christie’s feud with the teachers union and Murphy’s plan to legalize recreational marijuana.
“The Outsider” will run until Feb. 18. More information about the show can be found at OutsiderNow.com
