A recall petition has been filed against the mayor of Mahwah.

It calls for the removal of Mayor Bill LaForet.

He says he believes it is all about the ongoing controversy surrounding Orthodox Jews, including issues over the Eruvs and park ordinances.

Mahwah faces two lawsuits from the Bergen Rockland Eruv Association as well as the state Attorney General's Office.

"It's a very angry mob of a little group of people and they're entitled to do what they're doing, but I'm not going to let it distract from the job that has to be done," says LaForet.

The committee claims the recall is not about the Eruvs but more about a 2016 wrongful death lawsuit of a former DPW chief.
