Some Long Islanders arrived in Washington, D.C. Thursday morning to join thousands of others demanding action on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA.
The move is part of a week-long effort to pressure Congress to include the Dream Act in the federal budget by tomorrow's deadline.
Advocates say 800,000 young people who were brought to the United States illegally as children would be at risk for deportation if the program is ended.
Rodman Serrano was one of many Long Islanders who boarded a bus in Bay Shore at 5 a.m. to be in Washington, D.C.
"We have to make our voices clear, we have to make our voices heard," he says.
He says they will be pressuring Long Island representatives to throw their support behind the Dreamers.
An agreement on the Dream Act has been elusive and a point of contention between Republicans and Democrats as a government shutdown looms on Friday.
