Vigil held for star athlete from LI killed in Colorado crash

Mourners held a vigil Monday in Northport for a star lacrosse player from Long Island who died in a crash this past weekend in Colorado.
Julia Sarcona, 21, crashed her Subaru Forester into a tree Saturday near Boulder, Colorado.
"I'll never be the same without her," says Ali Pavinelli, Sarcona's neighbor, teammate and best friend. "She meant that much to me."
After graduating from Northport High School, Sarcona went on to the University of Colorado, where she played the attack position for the school's lacrosse team and racked up several goals during her career.
But it was Julia's conduct off the field that will probably be remembered most by those who knew her.
"She was the most free-spirited person -- she could make anyone laugh when she walked in the room," Pavinelli says. "She was the light of the room."
At Monday night's vigil, friends and former classmates wrote down fond memories of Sarcona that will later be delivered to her family.
Sarcona was set to graduate this spring with a degree in public relations. Her funeral will be held this weekend.
