Some Nassau residents say they have concerns about a PSEG Long Island plan to run a new high-voltage line from Uniondale to Lynbrook.

The line would run 7.2 miles underground, starting at Stewart Avenue in Uniondale at PSEG’s East Garden City substation. PSEG filed a state application for work on the project on Tuesday.

Some residents say they are worried about increased traffic near the route.

PSEG spokesman Jeffrey Weir says the goal of the project is to enhance the long-term reliability and resiliency of the electric system in western Nassau County.

Weir says PSEG expects to have Public Service Commission approval for the project by the end of this year. He says the $176 million project is expected to start late next year and be completed in late 2020.

"PSEG Long Island and our contractors will provide flag personnel and ensure that there is safety because we take that as our main priority, and we will also provide alternative routes for our customers to make sure that they are able to get to where they need to be,” says Weir.

Residents who spoke with News 12 say they hope they will get the chance to weigh in on the project through public meetings.
