Crews battle fire at abandoned Newark warehouse

Posted: Updated:
NEWARK -

A fire at an abandoned warehouse in Newark Saturday caused temporary delays for train travelers on both Amtrak and NJ Transit.

The fire broke out in a building on Garden Street, which sits alongside the train tracks on Route 21 in Newark.

Train service was suspended for a time between Newark and Penn Station New York due to the intense smoke.

The flames also took out power lines, cutting electricity to some 1,200 homes in the Ironbound section of the city.

No injuries were reported from the fire.
