Meeting held on Mastic-Moriches library referendum

A library bond proposal meeting was held Thursday evening at William Floyd High School on what could be the most expensive library ever built on Long Island.
The Mastic-Moriches Library board wants a $38.5 million library built at the former "Links at Shirley."
Opponents say it would increase library taxes by 20 percent. In addition, they say the William Floyd Parkway location is too remote with no public transportation.
The library board's president says fixing up the current building isn't a good option. He says it doesn't have space, parking or programming.
In addition to the expanded library space, plans also call for an outdoor amphitheater with seating for a few hundred, nearly 200 parking spaces, a nature emporium for children and a coffee bar.
The vote is scheduled for Feb. 7.  Applications for absentee ballots are available
