Cheddar Morning Business Update 01/10: Facebook, Microsoft, "Fire and Fury"
Posted: Updated:Facebook is about to go head to head with Amazon's Echo devices, with its own video chat device named Portal. Cheddar has learned that Facebook is pitching Portal as a way for families and friends to stay connected through video chatting. It will also stream music and movies. It will likely go on sale in the second half of 2018 and cost about $500. A Facebook spokesperson declined to comment for this story.
Microsoft is updating computers to protect against security flaws related to Intel chips, but that could mean much slower servers. Microsoft says newer computers could see slowdowns of up to 10 percent, and older computers will be even slower than that. Intel recently confirmed that its chips have a feature that make them vulnerable to hacking.
"Fire and Fury," Michael Wolff's book about the Trump White House is at the top of best seller lists - and so is another book, with the same name. A World War II book released in 2008 - also called "Fire and Fury" - is getting an unexpected sales boost.
