Keyport HS to remain closed until Jan. 16 for repairs

KEYPORT -

Keyport High School will remain closed until Jan. 16 due to emergency repairs.

Students have been off since they left for Christmas break. The ceiling became compromised during that break, and the school had to be closed due to safety concerns.

The length of time it has taken to make the repairs has some parents concerned.

“How are they making up the days? Are you going to let them go longer in the summer?” asks parent Nancy Pearce. “My daughter is a senior. What’s going on with graduation?”

Crews have been at the school making repairs and doing demolition.

Parents initially believed that classes would resume Wednesday.

But school officials say that although the power has been restored to the school, repairs still need to be made to the fire alarm, internet and security system.
