New Jersey prepares for Thursday snowstorm

Posted: Updated:
EDISON -

New Jerseyans are bracing for a winter storm that could drop several inches of snow in coastal areas and cause dangerous subzero wind chills.

The snow should start Wednesday overnight and continue through most of Thursday.

Road crews all around the state were preparing for the storm by fueling and loading up snowplows and other equipment. Brine trucks were out to treat the roads in order to prevent too much freezing on the roadways.

The storm is expected to hit the southern coastal areas of the state the hardest, with nearly a foot of snow expected. The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for Atlantic, Cape May, Ocean, southern Burlington and western Monmouth Counties.

A winter storm warning was issued for most counties in the state.

Northern parts of the state may be spared most of the snow, but should still see several inches of snow.

Winds should grow stronger during the day Thursday, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph. That could cause wind chills as low as 15 degrees below zero on Thursday night.

The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
