A man was found dead early Wednesday morning after a fire engulfed his home in Point Pleasant, officials said.

Authorities said preliminary information indicated the fire began prior to 2 a.m. at a home in the 1,000 block of Ridgefield Drive. 

Firefighters arrived at the scene to find the home fully engulfed in flames. Officials said that once the fire was extinguished, a man in his 60s who lived alone at the home was found dead inside the residence. His name has yet to be released.

Officials said the cause is under investigation.
