Officials say an explosion in Newark ignited two cars on the corner of Vassar Avenue and Maple Place Saturday morning.
The explosion occurred just after 6 a.m.
Newark police say a transformer exploded, causing electrical wires to fall and catch fire.
Officials say smoke lingered at the scene for almost three hours after.
No one was injured, but homes nearby did briefly lose power.
One home was evacuated.
