Bridgeport police say a drug dealer is off the streets thanks to a joint operation between their department and state police.
Investigators say 27-year-old Marques Goethe was on parole after spending three years in prison when he was arrested Thursday following a routine traffic stop.
They say Goethe was caught with marijuana, heroin and more than $1,000 cash on him, along with an illegal handgun and a high-capacity magazine.
Police say the suspect was sent to prison in 2012 after he was shot in the chest. At the time, he was found with several bags of cocaine packaged for sale.
Officials say the cycle needs to be broken.
"When he went to jail, he was probably recovering from that gunshot wound to the chest," say Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez. "Somebody could have used that as an example to him and say, 'Look, if you're going in the wrong direction here, let's do something here. Let's straighten out your life. We're going to help you, but you got to help us.'"
Goethe is being held on a $100,000 bond and is due back in court next month.
