Salvation Army distributes toys, meals to Asbury Park families

Hundreds of children will wake up Christmas morning with gifts under the tree thanks to the Salvation Army and its Angel Tree Program.
Salvation Army officers oversaw the distribution of toys, clothing and other holiday gifts Thursday in Asbury Park.
Donations made through the Angel Tree Program and the Salvation Army’s famous red kettles were able to supply 192 households in the community with gifts and food.
“You give a nickel every time you go to a kettle. You give 40 or 50 times, it's a couple of bucks, and a couple of bucks goes a long way to providing meals for kids. It goes a long way to helping seniors and those in need in your community,” Brandon Gonzalez-Cottrell, of the Salvation Army, said.
Gonzalez-Cottrell said a turkey dinner is included with the gift donations.
