Christmas countdown is on for holiday shoppers

EDISON -

Shoppers flocked to stores and malls around New Jersey this weekend with just days to go before Christmas.

The shopping season already got off to a healthy start. According the Bureau of Labor, sales in stores and online are up 5.8 percent since last year.

And Americans spent nearly $493 billion in November as they checked items off their lists for loved ones.

Shoppers were spoiled this year with five weekends between Black Friday and Christmas.

But with Christmas Eve one week away, shoppers are now going down to the wire.
