Shipping deadlines approach ahead of Christmas holiday

EDISON -

With Christmas just days away, time is running out for people who intend to buy gifts online or send gifts or cards through the mail.

Hard-working men and women delivering packages are in overdrive, and major couriers have put out some deadlines to ensure packages arrive by Christmas.

The ground shipping deadline has past, so those who intend on having packages by Christmas will have to pay extra for expedited shipping.

Dec. 19 is the last day for FedEx express saver and Dec. 21 is the last day for FedEx overnight shipping.

For UPS, the last day for three-day select shipping is Dec. 18, and Dec. 21 will be the last chance for next-day air shipping.

The United States Postal Services says Dec. 19 is the last day for first class mail and Dec. 22 is the last day for the priority mail express overnight option.

The nation's three major shipping companies expect to deliver record numbers of packages this season.
