Cranford neighborhood goes crazy with Christmas lights

CRANFORD -

There’s a neighborhood in the Union County town of Cranford that seems to go all out for the holiday season.

The residents of John Street each have their homes decked out with Christmas lights and large holiday displays. They say that it didn’t really start off as a competition.

“It was just, ‘Let’s brighten up the street,’” says one resident.

But now the neighbors say that they try to “one up” each other each year. They say that it brings the neighborhood together.

“The kids and everyone go up and down the street just looking at the houses,” says resident Liam Brown. “We get to talk to people during the holidays. It’s awesome, really.”

Brown says that he moved into the neighborhood about a year ago.

“Fantastic town, we just didn’t’ realized we need a second mortgage to pay for all the lights on the street,” he jokes.
