Top morning business and technology headlines for Dec. 5, 2017:

  • Starbucks is partnering with the Amazon of China: Alibaba. The coffee giant has announced the opening of a reserve roastery in Shanghai with an immersive augmented reality shopping experience. Visitors can use an app to order their coffee. The app includes details about brewing methods and offers to sign up for “coffee tasting experiences.”
  • Nike has found a way to make running a bit easier. A study shows that Nike’s “Zoom Vaporfly 4 Percent” sneaker reduces energy use while running by 4 percent. Shalane Flanagan, the winner of the New York City Marathon, was wearing the shoes when she won this year’s race. The sneakers cost $250.
  • “House of Cards” will return, and it’s Claire Underwood’s time to shine. Netflix has announced that the show’s final season will resume production without Kevin Spacey. It will be eight episodes rather than the typical 13. Robin Wright will assume the lead role, returning to play Claire Underwood.
