Long Branch firefighters design bedroom at Ronald McDonald House

LONG BRANCH -

Firefighters in Long Branch came together to work on a project at the Ronald McDonald House to help make a difficult time in a child’s life a little brighter.

Each one of the bedrooms for children and their families at the Ronald McDonald House in Long Branch sports a different theme. Months of planning and three weeks of building transformed one of the bedrooms into an exact replica of a firehouse.

“They came together as a team. (They) worked together on their time off, not a day that that doorbell wasn't rung and they weren't coming in to do something,” Ronald McDonald Executive Director Susan Collin said.

More than a dozen firefighters went to the drawing board, mapping out what their own childhood firehouse bedroom would look like. From the ceilings to the nozzle lamps, every detail of the room was planned out for the highest level of authenticity.

“This is what firefighters do, the men and woman. Every day we are the same people interacting with the community, such good things for the community,” firefighters Eddie Donnelly said.

Bedrooms in the Ronald McDonald homes usually switch themes every few years when it's time for renovations.

The organization relies on outside help like the firefighters to help make all that work possible.
