Vehicle strikes 2 people, killing 1 in Linden

A woman was killed and a man was injured Friday morning when a vehicle struck the pair at an intersection in Linden, police said.

The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. near St. Georges Avenue and DeWitt Street. Linden police said both victims were from New York. 

The 44-year-old woman was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway, where she was later pronounced dead. The 54-year-old man was taken to University Hospital in Newark with serious injuries, police said.

Authorities said the driver remained at the scene, but added that it was too early to determine whether charges will be filed.

The Linden Police Traffic Bureau is investigating the incident.
