Driver killed when car collides with freight train in Bergenfield

The driver of a car was killed Saturday in a crash involving a train and a car in Bergenfield.
Officials say a freight train from St. Louis, Missouri, was heading toward Little Ferry when it collided with the car. It happened at Columbia and Cortland avenues near the Dumont-Bergenfield border, around 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
Officials say the train pushed the car far enough down the tracks that pieces of the car's bumper were seen strewn along Columbia Avenue.
The track was shut down for several hours but has since reopened.
Investigators will review surveillance video to determine if the car passed through the gate or if it had paused on the tracks.
Officials say the driver's identity will not be released until their next of kin is contacted.
