Friday marked World Prematurity Day, and Good Samaritan Hospital celebrated by throwing a party for some of the smallest babies ever born at their hospital.

The Campos family of Lindenhurst welcomed their son Oscar in June at 23 weeks old and weighing 1 pound 3 ounces. Oscar spent the next 137 days being cared for in the neonatal intensive care unit. 

The family says Oscar was fighting for his life and beat the odds, going home six weeks ago. Oscar came back with his family to visit the doctors and nurses in honor of World Prematurity Day. 

The McCleod family also attended the gathering. Their fifth child, Alijah, was born 24 weeks premature in June and weighed under a pound - the smallest baby born at the hospital. She's almost 7 pounds now and her parents call her their miracle baby.

Doctors say that one of every 10 babies born in the United States is premature. At Good Samaritan, they say they have about 19 premies in the NICU every day.
