Some Bergen County elementary school students were able to get a first look at the new floats joining the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year.
Five new floats were unveiled at the event in Moonachie Tuesday. The new floats include "Everyone's Favorite Bake Shop" by Entenmann's, "Harvest in the Valley" by Green Giant, "Universal Playground" by Sour Patch Kids Candy, "Shimmer and Shine" by Nickelodeon and "Fun House" by Sprout.
Macy’s Parade Studio Vice President John Piper says that the company loves to show off the new floats to children.
“We really love to share the artistry and the production and the science,” Piper says. “[The children] are not just walking around. We have docents at each station to teach them elements about how you create things artistically and structurally.”
Piper says that the children have also given them great ideas about how to improve floats.
It can take anywhere from six to nine months to build a float from the first sketch to the finished project.
