A tenant has confessed to deliberately setting a fire that killed two people and injured eight others, including an infant, in a Dyker Heights apartment building, according to investigators.
Police say they believe the motive stemmed from a dispute over neighbors leaving garbage in the hallway.
The flames sparked Thursday in a first-floor hallway at 6709 11th Ave. around 7 a.m.
FDNY fire marshals and NYPD detectives say Joanna Mei, 22, told them she set the blaze. She lives in the building's third floor. Now she faces felony charges including murder and arson.
Firefighters say they found no working smoke detectors inside.
The flames killed a 58-year-old man and 56-year-old woman. Five people, including a 4-year-old girl and a 3-month-old boy, and three firefighters were also injured.
