Ravi Bhalla wins Hoboken mayoral race

Ravi Bhalla has won the race to replace Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer.
Bhalla declared the victory on his Twitter page around 10:20 p.m. He beat out five other mayoral candidates. He is the first Sikh to be elected as a mayor in New Jersey.
Zimmer chose not to run for another term.
The mayoral race in Hoboken became contentious when flyers featuring Bhalla’s image were distributed around town with the caption, “Don’t let terrorism take over our town.” The flyers said that they were sponsored by candidate Michael DeFusco’s campaign, but DeFusco has denied any involvement.
Bhalla has served as a Hoboken councilman for eight years.
