Residents mixed on Broadway Triangle development project

Posted: Updated:
BROOKLYN -

Residents are mixed on the now approved retail complex and affordable housing units being built in the Broadway Triangle.

The Rabsky Group plans to build over 1,000 apartments across eight buildings on the 4.2-acre property, which used to be a Pfizer pharmaceutical facility.  There will also be more than 200 affordable housing units.

The project has been highly criticized by opponents saying that it discriminates against minorities and are worried that Rabsky will market the development only to Hasidic families with mostly three- and four-bedroom apartments.

The developer is saying 60 percent of the project will have 300 affordable housing apartments with one and two-bedroom units.

"We don't belong in this neighborhood anymore. There's hardly Latinos living in this area; it's mostly Jewish people and it's expensive to live here,” says one opponent.

Other people say they just hope everyone gets accepted and everyone can live among each other in the community.

The development is expected to be completed by 2019.
