A Rutgers University professor has been receiving death threats ever since he was accused of making anti-Semitic posts on Facebook.
Michael Chikindas, a microbiology professor in the food science department and director of the Rutgers Center for Digestive Health, is accused of posting anti-Israel and anti-Jewish rants on his page over several months.
Some of the posts stated that the Armenian genocide was orchestrated by Jews.  Another post depicts Jews in cartoons insinuating they are in control of the Federal Reserve, the legal system, the media and sex trafficking.
Chikindas claims in a statement to News 12 New Jersey that his Facebook page was hacked.
But not everyone at Rutgers is buying the hacking excuse.
“He said he was hacked. Not sure what else he could say. But there are screen captures from Facebook and it seems pretty evident that he posted them,” says Andrew Getraer of Rutgers Hillel, the campus Jewish organization.
Getraer says that the university is doing its own investigation.
“They’ll determine if he’s telling the truth or not,” Getraer says.
A petition is being circulated by students that calls on Rutgers to "take swift and necessary action to suspend the professor, pending further investigation.
Rutgers University officials disavowed the comments and said that the professor is being investigated for allegedly violating the university's anti-discrimination policies.
