An Ocean County lawmaker is introducing a bill to ban mandatory microchipping of employees in New Jersey.

Republican Assemblyman Ron Dancer says that the bill would fine employers that refuse to hire or who fire an employee for refusing to be implanted with personal identification microchips.

“A device implanted in an employee’s body should never be a condition of employment,” Dancer said in a statement. “It’s an invasion of privacy and an assault on their freedom."

The bill follows a Wisconsin-based technology company’s announcement that it is offering employees microchip implants allowing keyless access to the building and cash- and card-less payment for food in the cafeteria.

The microchip is voluntary in that instance, but Dancer says that he wants to make sure it does not become mandatory in New Jersey.
